Quentin Tarantino isn't exactly the touchy, feely type. And he's not usually one for period pieces -- especially of the corset-ripping romantic variety -- unless they involve a badass brigade of Jewish soldiers scalping Nazis, of course. After all, he's the brilliant, twisted mind behind such blood-soaked, expletive-laden, corset-free masterpieces as 'Reservoir Dogs,' 'Pulp Fiction,' 'Kill Bill' and 'Inglourious Basterds.' That's what makes this bit of news so, for lack of a better word, awesome.Moviefone exclusively has obtained the text of a handwritten note from Tarantino to filmmaker Jane Campion -- a "Dear Jane" letter, one might say -- passionately scrawled in red ink and expressing in superlatives his unbridled love for Campion's latest film, the romantic period piece 'Bright Star.' In theaters now, 'Bright Star' features Ben Whishaw as Romantic poet John Keats and Abbie Cornish (in a turn that's generating Oscar buzz) as Fanny Brawne, the free-spirited, fashion-forward younger woman who tamed Keats' heart and inspired his most renowned poem.
"My favorite film of yours," Tarantino writes. "I don't like period pieces like that. I loved this!!! Never has heartache been so realistically and movingly portrayed as Abbie taking to her bed ... The lovers kisses ... Abbie and Ben ... touching ... Brilliant. I loved it!!!" The note is signed, "Love - Your fan - Quentin Tarantino."
Sounds like Q.T. is more of a softie than we thought.

One of the best dramas I've seen all year! The cast was amazing, and the music haunting. You should check out the film Bright Star’s official site, where they've announced the Love Letter Contest. One keeps hoping that Tarantino will grow up and make real films, but he seems too caught up in the culture of mimesis. Instead of writing mash notes to other filmmakers he might try conceiving something that does not resemble a poorly drawn comic.
