Jeremy Piven, Kate Walsh Tackle Drama in 'Waska'

Jeremy Piven, Kate Walsh to star in 'Waska'Jeremy Piven and Kate Walsh are set to star in the indie drama 'Waska,' based on the novel 'Angels Crest' by Leslie Schwartz.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 'Entourage' star Piven plays a prosecutor who goes after a young father (Thomas Dekker) whose 3-year-old freezes to death on a fishing trip. The whole community is affected by this tragic turn of events during "Waska" -- the first snowfall of the season, which can be both magical and treacherous.

Doing an indie film is a smart move for both Piven and Walsh, who are best known for their TV roles (Walsh is the star of ABC's ''Private Practice'). The choice to do a lower-budget, dramatic film often gives stars much-desired acting credibility. Piven probably hopes that a turn as an ambitious prosecutor will eclipse the bad publicity he received after dropping out of the Broadway production of 'Speed the Plow' last year.

Walsh has found success on television, and fans should embrace her leap to the big screen. She is also set to star in the upcoming fantasy thriller 'Legion' and the comedy 'Hot Tub Time Machine.'

Waska also stars Mira Sorvino, Elizabeth McGovern and Joseph Morgan. Catherine Trieschmann wrote the adaptation, which is being directed by Gaby Dellal.
