2010 Toronto Film Festival Guide: 10 Movies We Can't Wait to See

Are you exhausted by all the big-budget blockbusters and sequels that came out this summer? Well, you're in luck, because, beginning Thursday, the studios will roll out a number of their their top Oscar contenders at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival.

This year's lineup includes some of the most talked about films of the year, including entries from Mike Leigh, Clint Eastwood, Danny Boyle and Woody Allen, as well as 'Black Swan,' the film that has propelled star Natalie Portman to the front of the Best Actress race.

But which films are we really anticipating? Check out our top 10 list after the jump.

Moviefone Minute: 'Twilight' Novella Might Hit the Silver Screen and Pixar Pics from 'Newt'

Another 'Twilight' rumor to hold you over until 'Breaking Dawn'Ah Twilighters. I know how difficult it is to wait for vampire/werewolf news. I felt the same thing every time they postponed 'The Hobbit' films. Well, I have a lovely little rumor to tide you over until 'Breaking Dawn Part 1' hits. Looks like we might be seeing more of a very short-lived young vampire. And rumor has it she may be recast. I'll give you the details. (Source: What's Playing)

I don't like people to see me cry. It's embarassing. I'm not one of those pretty criers. I look like a mishappen tomato. So I only go to see Pixar films with people I know very well. Seriously, Pixar films are the only ones the require that I buy a box of tissues with my popcorn. They just released some shots from a film they're not even making and, darn it if I didn't sniffle! At least give me a film if I'm going to look like this! (Source: Facebook) Check out the video after the jump.

Nightly News: 'Gravity' Attracts Natalie Portman; More

Natalie Portman has been getting glowing advance notice for her role in Darren Aronofsky's psychological thriller 'Black Swan' and now the actress has been tapped to star in Alfonso Cuaron's 'Gravity,' a science-fiction survival story about a woman stranded on a space station after satellite debris slams into it and wipes out the rest of the crew. According to Risky Business, the lead role has been much sought after in Hollywood (Angelina Jolie was slated for the part but pulled out recently). According to the report, Portman is expected to read the latest version of the script for the $80 million 3D project this week and make her decision shortly.

Michael Caine Books Passage to 'Mysterious Island'

New Line Cinema's 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' is really picking up steam. Just last week it was announced that Dwayne Johnson was joining the cast of the sequel to 'Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D' and now Variety reports that Michael Caine is in talks to co-star in the film.

In the sequel, which will be shot and released in 3D, Josh Hutcherson returns as teenage adventurer Sean Anderson who goes on a search to find his missing grandfather (Caine). Johnson portrays the boyfriend to Anderson's mother.

Liam Neeson Takes Commanding Role in 'Battleship'

Liam Neeson will take the helm of 'Battleship,' the Universal tentpole film that's based on the Hasbro naval combat board game, according to DeadlineHollywood.

Neeson joins Alexander Skarsgard, Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna in the action adventure that takes place on the land, on the seas and in the sky as a fleet of ships is forced to do battle with an armada of unknown origins in order to save the planet.

End of Summer Movies Poll Results: 'Twilight' Takes Bite Out of Competition

Moviefone's 2010 end of summer movies poll was taken over by 'Twilight' fans!

The movie's top supporters went to the polls in droves, helping the third chapter in the uber-popular vampire saga to win every category it was up for.

Meanwhile, Moviefone readers were also fans of 'Inception,' which took home Best Action Film, and 'The Other Guys,' which won Best Comedy. 'Toy Story 3' won Best Animated and Best Family Film.

But it wasn't all good news: 'Sex and the City 2' failed to deliver for fans of the show, and was named the most disappointing movie of the summer, as well as the movie least worth your cash.

Overall, readers went against the consensus and said 2010 was an "awesome" summer for movies.

For the full results, check after the jump. Good work, Twi-hards! (We think?)

UK Box Office: The Last Exorcism Beats Schmucks to Top Spot

The Last ExorcismAfter a stonking July and August in the wake of World Cup football, activity cools down at UK cinemas with an absence of commercially potent new releases and the maturation of many of the summer's big hitters. Star-driven vehicles Dinner For Schmucks and The Switch stumbled out of the gate, allowing low-budget genre flick The Last Exorcism to sneak away with the top spot.

The well-marketed horror title was the only film this weekend to enjoy takings of £1m-plus (see chart, below). Schmucks, a remake of French hit Le Diner Des Cons, failed to translate the star power of Steve Carell and Paul Rudd into stellar box-office, with lacklustre takings of £941,000 including £296,000 in previews.

But that was a lot better than Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman managed with their insemination romcom The Switch: £666,0000, including previews of £187,000. Both films look vulnerable to the release this Friday of fresh comedy offerings Tamara Drewe, Going The Distance and Cyrus.
